Instructions:
This drive begins at the Intersection of Routes 4 & 100 in the
town of Killington [listed in most online map programs as Sherburne -
name before being renamed as Killington]. It should be noted that this
starting point can be reached via Route 4 from both I-91 to the east,
and the Vermont border to the west. It should also be noted that at the
south side of this intersection is the Killington Ski Resort
which runs its Gondolas during the Foliage Season [Call Ahead For
Operating Hours & Rates]. The views from the summit are truly
breathtaking!
You will travel the length of the entire Scenic Drive on Route 100
North - ending at I-89. The view along the way will differ from turn to
turn and village to village.
Traveling north from Granville on Route 100 (toward Warren) you'll
soon encounter an impressive natural phenomenon commonly known as the
Granville Gulf (Granville Gulf State Reservation). This is a seven mile
stretch of untouched wilderness. Drive carefully. Route 100 is a
two-lane winding road in the Gulf. And yes, "a river runs through
it" - The Mad River - and it flows NORTH. You'll pass Moss Glen
Falls, on your left when heading north. Can't miss it!
It is suggested you leave Route 100 for a few hundred yards and
visit the Village of Warren. The general store is worth a visit!
When you're finished visiting this metropolis go back to Route 100 and
head north.
Next stop is Waitsfield, also in the Mad River Valley. Some great
shops and and a number of eateries!
When you're back in the car
resume heading north on Route 100 until you reach I-89. At this point
you've ended this particular Scenic Drive and can either head east on
I-89 to I-91 [Spectacular Views] - Or, head west on I-91 to Burlington
and Lake Champlain. You can also opt to take a short drive up to Stowe
and drive over Vermont's highest mountain - Mt. Mansfield!
